Assessing Water Damage on Walls
Assess the extent of the damage. Determine the source of the water and stop it if possible. Check for any signs of mold or mildew, which can indicate hidden water damage.
Dealing with Water Damage on Walls
- Remove standing water: Use a wet/dry vacuum or towels to remove any standing water from the affected area.
- Dry the walls: Use fans or dehumidifiers to circulate air and dry the walls. Open windows to allow for ventilation.
- Inspect for mold: Check for any signs of mold or mildew. If present, clean the area with a bleach solution (1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water).
- Repair drywall: If the drywall is damaged, it may need to be repaired or replaced. Cut out any damaged drywall and replace it with new drywall.
- Repaint: Once the walls are dry and repaired, repaint the affected area to match the rest of the wall.
